As the industry wraps up the second quarter of 2013, we are beginning to see the results of how much companies are spending as well as where those dollars are going.
Currently, the top eight spenders in shales are:
- EOG Resources - $7B ($2.5B allocated to Eagle Ford)
- Chesapeake Energy Corp. - $6.4B ($2.24B allocated to Eagle Ford)
- Hess Corp. - $2.1B (Bakken Shale focus)
- Continental Resources - $2B (Bakken Shale focus)
- Marathon Oil - $1.9B (Eagle Ford Shale focus)
- Occidental Petroleum - $1.9B (Permian Basin focus)
- EP Energy - $1.8B (Eagle Ford, Permian Wolfcamp focus)
- Noble Energy - $1.7B (Niobrara Shale focus)
And, as displayed by the chart below, the top four plays that are pulling the most weight in terms of allocated CapEx are:
- Eagle Ford Shale - $19,188MM
- Bakken/Three Forks Shale - $13,502MM
- Marcellus Shale - $8,885MM
- Permian Basin - $8,772MM
