Waste Management, Advantek Join Forces in the Permian for 'One Stop Shop' Facility

Houston-based Waste Management (WM) has turned to the Permian as the site for a new breed of waste/disposal facility that will specifically cater to oil and gas operators in the region.

The team behind the project spoke exclusively with Shale Experts about the facility, which will be opening in the Southern Delaware Basin in mid-to-late June 2018.

WM has partnered with international service veteran Advantek to co-develop the facility that will be unique in form and broad in scope. The facility will serve as a ‘one-stop shop’, integrating transport, waste services, environmental solutions into one platform.

 “We first entered the oil and gas service sphere in the Marcellus in 2010 and subsequently expanded to other plays including the Utica, Niobrara and Bakken,” said Jason Chan, WM’s Area Director of Operations/Energy Services. “However, we have been targeting [entry] into the Permian for some time [due to] customer demand. We chose the Southern Delaware due to the lack of existing infrastructure in the area.”

The facility will be the first of its kind in the region, equipped to process and dispose of both solid and liquid waste, drilling mud and more (see right).

Partnership with Advantek

WM touted its partnership with Advantek as a key component of the project.

Randy Leach, National Account Manager/Energy Services, noted: “Advantek has worldwide exposure and experience [with] the injection technology [which will] allow for the full disposal of waste via injection.”

Leach also touted the environmentally-friendly aspect of the project, noting that the facility is meant to “provide operators with a facility capable of doing the same amount of work as its counterparts, but with a smaller overall footprint.”

Facility Quick Facts:

• Location: Reeves County, TX in heart the Southern Delaware Basin (see map below)

• Estimated in-service date: June 2018

• Waste Capabilities: Will accept both solid and liquid waste

• Additional services available including: roustabout, pressure cleaning, tank cleaning, hydro excavation, field services, etc.

Additional Facilities Planned

Going forward, the WM team also noted that it is evaluating other areas in the Permian for future facilities, including the Midland and Northern Delaware Basins. WM estimates it will break ground on a second facility by 2019.
