The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit has temporarily halted the shutting of the Dakota Access Pipeline, according to multiple reports.

This comes 10 days after a court ruling stated the line must be shut-in by August 5, 2020.

In the appellate decision, the court stated: "The purpose of this administrative stay is to give the court sufficient opportunity to consider the emergency motion for stay and should not be construed in any way as a ruling on the merits of that motion."

While this does not cancel the shut-in indefinitely, it will give the courts more time to come to a definitive decision.
