Austin Chalk
The Austin Chalk is an upper Cretaceous geologic formation in the Gulf Coast region of the United States. It is named after type section outcrops near Austin, Texas. The formation is made up of chalk and marl.
The Austin Chalk is producing natural gas and oil. Companies drilling the Austin Chalk are having huge success. Additionally, they are finding other oil & natural gas rich zones, such as the Eagle Ford Shale.
Austin Chalk lies above the Eagle Ford shale, yet below the Dessau formation. The average targeted depth is roughly 1,700 meters.
