Enerplus Resources Fund agreed to acquire Focus Energy Trust for C$1.38 billion ($1.38 billion) in its biggest acquisition, increasing expected 2008 production of oil and natural gas by about 26 percent.

Focus unit holders will receive 0.425 unit of Enerplus for each of their units, the Calgary-based income trusts said today in a joint statement. That values Focus at C$17.38 per unit, a premium of 7.8 percent over the Nov. 30 closing price.

Enerplus owners will hold about 79 percent of the combined trust, which is expected to produce the equivalent of about 101,000 barrels of oil per day next…
