This policy explains what Shale Experts collects when you use www.shaleexperts.com (the “Website”), why we collect it, and what you can do about it. It covers our news and analysis, our oil and gas data tools, our email newsletters, and paid subscriptions.
Who we are
Shale Experts is the controller of the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at privacy@shaleexperts.com or on 713-876-7700.
What we collect
- Account information — name, email address, company, job title and password when you register or subscribe.
- Subscription and payment information — the plan you hold, its status and renewal dates. Card details are handled by our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers.
- Newsletter preferences — the address you subscribed with and which lists you are on.
- Usage data — pages viewed, searches run, IP address, browser and device type, and the page that referred you. For subscribers this includes which data tools and reports you use, so we can support the account and apply plan limits.
- Correspondence — messages you send us.

Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information for money. We do share limited information with the service providers that make the Website work:
- Advertising partners, including Google, which receive identifiers and browsing data in order to serve and measure advertising. Under California law this counts as “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising.
- Analytics providers, which help us understand how the Website is used.
- Our payment processor, for subscription billing.
- Our email delivery provider, for newsletters and account email.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to establish or defend legal claims.
Your rights in the EEA and the UK
You have the right to request access to your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already carried out.

Where we transfer personal data outside the EEA or the UK, we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or another lawful transfer mechanism.
Your rights in California
If you are a California resident you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to request its deletion or correction, to request a portable copy, to opt out of the sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and not to be treated differently for exercising these rights.
To opt out of sharing for advertising, use the Google Ads Settings and aboutads.info controls above, or email privacy@shaleexperts.com and we will action it for you.
How long we keep it
Account and subscription records are kept for as long as your account is open, and afterwards for as long as we are required to keep them for tax, accounting and legal purposes. Newsletter records are kept until you unsubscribe. Usage logs are kept only as long as they are useful for security and for understanding how the Website is used.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
The Website is intended for business users and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top. If the changes are significant we will tell you more prominently.
