Japan’s largest power generator, JERA Co., Inc., moved deeper into U.S. upstream natural gas with a $1.5 billion acquisition of the South Mansfield asset in the Haynesville Shale, strengthening its long-term LNG supply strategy.

The transaction, announced October 23, 2025, gives JERA 100% ownership of the operated South Mansfield position in western Louisiana. The asset is currently producing more than 500 MMscfd and includes roughly 200 undeveloped drilling locations, providing meaningful development runway in one of North America’s premier dry gas basins.
