Williams Cos. Inc. on Tuesday said it purchased 42,000 net acres in the Marcellus Shale in northeastern Pennsylvania from Alta Resources LLC and its partners for $501 million.
The acquisition, which is subject to standard closing conditions, will nearly double the natural gas producer's exploration and production holdings in the region, Williams stated.
The company, based in Tulsa, Okla., said it believes the acreage represents about 1.2 trillion cubic feet equivalent in total net natural gas reserves potential.
