PE firm EnCap Investments has entered into an agreement to acquire EP Energy for $1.5 billion, according to a report by Reuters.

EP Energy initially filed for bankruptcy in October 2019. After a drawn out Chapter 11 process, the company finally emerged from bankruptcy in late 2020.

Since then, the company has been accepting takeover bids from several PE firms.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, EnCap will split up EP Energy and subsequently merge them with existing portfolio companies.

EP Energy's Assets

EP Energy holds assets in the Eagle Ford as well as the Rockies (Utah) regions.
