San Joaquin Basin Overview

Located in southern California, the San Joaquin Basin is home to two highly unique shale targets - the Kreyenhagen Shale and the Monterey Shale. Unlike other popular shales such as the Eagle Ford or Bakken, the source rock is heavily fractured due to the region's earthquake-prone history. This unique characteristic puts the basin in a category not shared by the majority of onshore U.S. plays.

Companies currently active in the San Joaquin Basin include Solimar Energy, Zodiac Exploration and East West Petroleum.
