Delaware Basin Wolfcamp Overview

While the Wolfcamp Shale is omnipresent across all of the various basins that comprise the Permian, here we discuss the Wolfcamp activity specific to the Delaware Basin. Furthermore, although the entire Delaware Basin is more or less prospective for the Wolfcamp Shale, there are areas where it is hard to distinguish between the Wolfcamp Shale and the Penn Shale that sits below it.

Most of the current activity targets the oilier Upper Wolfcamp rather than the significantly more gas prone and more mature Lower Wolfcamp Shale. The upper sections comprise a roughly 1,000’ gross interval that sits at depths in the 10,000 – 12,000’ context (though the Wolfbone vertical wells are drilled to 11,000 – 12,500’) and the overall shale, in its entirety, is ~2,000’ thick in the Delaware Basin.
