Covering an exceptionally large area, the Russian Federation is home to a large amount of shale reserves. The formation with the most potential is the country's Bazhenov oil shale.
According to analysts, the shale is 80 times larger than the Bakken shale in the United States. Numerous companies, including industry heavyweight ExxonMobil, have expressed interest in unlocking unconventional resource potential in Russia.
