Key industry figure and founder of Apache Corp., Raymond Plank, passed away on November 8, 2018 at his Ucross, Wyoming ranch, according to multiple reports.
He was 96 years old.
Prior to founding Apache, Plank served as a B-24 bomber pilot in WWII and went on to graduate from Yale University in 1946 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Plank returned to his hometown of Minneapolis and started Apache Corp. in 1954 with two friends and approximately $250,000 in initial funds. In the years since, the company has grown into a multi-billion dollar corporation. Just last year, the company saw over $5.8 billion in revenues and currently has a market cap of ~$13.8 billion.
Plank officially retired from Apache in 2009.
