GE Reaches Verdict on Carbon Dioxide Frac Replacement

General Electric Company states that carbon dioxide will not be a likely replacement for water in the fraccing process, according to a report by Reuters.
Technical challenges and limited infrastructure limit the successful use of this technique. GE has devoted a large, $10B research program to studying the use of carbon dioxide as a replacement for water in the fraccing process.
Companies will continue to use more than 2 million gallons per fracced well using water. This will likely delay the use of fraccing in more arid regions, in the US as well as internationally.
GE is researching how chilled CO2 could be used to replace water. The CO2, properly cooled becomes super-critical, where it is neither solid nor liquid.
