Rig Count: Canada Continues Seasonal Growth, US Down

According to Baker Hughes' January 15, 2016 rig count report, U.S. rig counts have dropped by -14 overall, while Canada saw another huge jump in rigs, adding +61. In December 2015, the International market lost -14.

Overall, -8 horizontal and -3 vertical rigs were taken down this week. The Permian lost -7 rigs this week.

The total year-over-year (YOY) rig count drop is now at 1,026.

The current active rig count in the U.S. is 650.

- Niobrara -3, 19 total

- Barnett -1, 5 total

- Eagle Ford -3, 68 total

- Marcellus +1, 38 total

- Bakken -4, 49 total

- Utica -1, 13 total

- Permian -7, 202 total

- Woodford +1, 37 total

- Miss Lime +1, 12 total

Canada's rig count jumped by +61. The country's rig count has fallen by 213 rigs YOY with 220 rigs currently active.
