Samson Resources, a top 20 U.S. E&P company headquartered in Tulsa, OK are now sharing key drilling, completions and hydraulic fracturing data on their shale gas and tight oil wells. Initially these are wells drilled between 2013 and 2015 in Powder River, Green River, Bakken, Granite Wash, Cotton Valley and other plays.

Their participation in the “Shale Performance Review” provides them with access to offset shale and tight well data on wells drilled in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia by BHP including Petrohawk, Chevron including Atlas, ConocoPhillips, Eni, EP Energy, Hess, Hunt, Husky, Marathon, Murphy, Newfield, Nexen, Pan American, Pioneer, Santos, Shell, Statoil including Brigham, Suncor, Talisman and Total.

Established early 2012 in Houston by a group of Operators, the Shale Performance Review enables the exchange of high quality and reliable data between Operators to aid them with their well planning, budgeting, performance management and benchmarking processes.

Bart Boudreaux, Vice President of Drilling for Samson said “Excellence in drilling and completions along with disciplined capital stewardship is absolutely imperative here at Samson Resources. Accordingly, external benchmarking is a key component to ensuring we are competitive in all areas we work as we strive towards “top tier” performance”.

“I’ve been exposed to the Reviews internationally for over 15 years …” Bart continued “… and have always been impressed with the attention to detail and the integrity of their data. We are extremely bullish on the value we will gain out of the Shale Performance Review and encourage other Operators to join in”.

Helen Rushmore, Director of Rushmore Associates, whose organisation manages the Shale Review on behalf of the Operators, said “It is the Operators themselves who decide what data to share and the rules under which this is done. The fact that every participating Operator has committed to provide between three and five years’ worth of data shows how committed these companies are to achieving ‘top quartile’ performance”.

“The shale revolution is rapidly spreading worldwide …” continued Helen “… and, as well as thousands of North American wells, we have also published data on shale wells drilled Argentina, Australia, China, Colombia, Indonesia, Jordan, Poland and Sweden.

Aberdeen-based Rushmore Reviews are this year celebrating 25 years of offset data sharing between hundreds of Operating Companies in 100 countries.

Helen concluded “Performance excellence is vital for success in the shale plays and the only way an Operator can measure its comparative level of performance is through access to high quality and reliable offset data.”
