Shell Follows Encana's Lead; Ditches Kansas Mississippi Lime

Royal Dutch Shell is turning tails on its Kansas-based Mississippi Lime operations after results fail to impress, according to a report by the Wichita Eagle.
The company wrapped up its Mississippian drilling operations in July 2013 and has been analyzing the results in the interim.
According to Shell spokesman Scott Scheffler, the results "do not meet [the company's] targets and the best option is to divest."
Shell currently holds 600,000 acres and 45 producing wells in the play.
Revisiting Encana's Mississippi Lime DepartureShell is not the first to walk out on this play. Earlier this year, Encana Corp. closed the door on the Kansas branch of the Mississippi Lime play. Originally, Encana had touted its position of 360,000 net acres and ~1,900 net well locations.
