Sinopec Hits Major Shale Gas Discovery in China; Deepest to Date

A new discovery of a shale gas deposit was reportedly discovered by Sinopec in Southwest China's Guizhou Province, according to a report by International Business Times.
Named Dingye-2HF, it has a maximum daily output is 105,000 cubic meters, and an expected daily output 43,000 cubic meters. It was discovered at a depth of 4,417 Meters, the deepest thus far in the country.
China's demand for energy continues to increase amid rapid economic expansion. By 2030, unconventional oil and gas production is expected to account for one-third of the country's total production. According to a shale gas plan for 2011-2015, China aims to produce 6.5 billion cubic meters of shale gas annually by 2015.
