Four top operators in the Bakken - Hess, Whiting, Continental Resources and Marathon - have been conducting independent tests to uncover the best method for completing wells in the Bakken.
Whiting has been attempting to maximize its fraccing efficiency with cemented liners - though the usefulness of this technique is disputed by Hess.
WhitingHess conducted a test of the company's wells in 2 areas, the Stony Creek and East Nesson. It was found that ceramic, cemented liners, and higher proppant loads were not influential in the long term performance of the well. Ceramic proppant in particular seems to generate poor performance compared to regular sand, in Hess's data. The company found stage count increase to be the only positive correlation for higher returns over an IP 90.
