Transaction volume and average value both increased year over year as operators began to consolidate core positions within shale plays. 

The total value of all transactions more than doubled in 2016. This was aided by eight significant deals, which together added $20 Billion in total value.  

The Top Deals in 2016

Half of the transactions over ~$2.0 Billion took place in the Permian Basin, focused on Delaware Basin acreage changing hands.
