Cleanup Continues Following Bakken Pipeline Spill

Crews continue cleanup after a pipeline owned by Tesoro broke, spilling 20,600 barrels of oil near Tioga, ND, according to a report by the Grand Forks Herald.
Eric Haugstad, Director of contingency planning and response for Tesoro, said that as of Sunday October 13th, crews had recovered about 1,800 barrels of oil.
Crews have worked 24 hours a day, digging 3,000 feet of trenches in the area of the leak. “Super sucker” vacuum trucks evacuated solids and liquids from the trenches.
According to Haugstad, remediation could take months. The cleanup effort will be slowed by winter weather.
Initial estimates of volume put the spill at 750 barrels. Continued investigation by the company showed oil subsurface above a clay boundary. Last week Tesoro updated its estimate to 20,600 barrels, according…
