Despite Ramping Up D&C Activity, Operators to Keep Production Flat for 2021

Despite rising oil prices, many operators are planning to keep production levels flat or lower compared to 2020 levels.

This flat-to-declining production trend is emerging in spite of operators increasing their D&C plans from 2020 (although it is important to note that well activity was largely limited in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

However, when it comes to oil production, operators are relatively split equally between increasing oil output and maintaining or lowering oil output (see first chart).

The same trend can be seen with total equivalent production (see second chart).

2020 vs. 2021 Oil Production

Oil output will be slightly up +1.0% compared to 2020 levels.
