Gripen Gas Awarded Sweden Shale Gas Licences

Gripen Gas confirmed today that Bergsstaten (Swedish Mines Inspectorate) has awarded five exploration licences totalling 186km2 on Öland, in Kalmar County to the company and a further two licences, totalling 11km2 in Ostergotland County . The exploration licences are for unconventional gas exploration in the organic rich Alum shale formation.
These seven new awards plus the existing five licences in Östergötland make Gripen Gas AB the principal gas explorer in Sweden at 421km2.
The five exploration licences (Greby, Össby, Nyby, Lundeby and Melby) in Öland cover a range of potential Cambro-Ordivician exploration targets for unconventional hydrocarbons. A number of wells drilled 40 years ago recorded hydrocarbon shows in the Cambrian sandstone and the Cambro-- Ordovician Alum shale.
