Halliburton or Trican: Who Will Encana Boot?

As most of you already know, Encana Corp. announced its acquisition of Free-Port's Eagle Ford asset for $3.1 billion, roughly 2.4 times operating cash flow. 

Shale Experts thinks this is a good move for Encana, who as of the fourth quarter had about 85% of its production consisting of gas.

We were however more interested in the implications for service companies.  Shale Experts has a unique frac database that allows us to access the relationship between the E&P companies and which service company they work with.

Observation

Since acquiring the asset from Plains Exploration, Free-Port has been working with Halliburton as its pressure pumper. It wasn't until Q1 of 2014 that we noticed a "handful" of wells were being fracced by Trican.  While we do not know the reason for this, it is…
