Hi-Crush, Covia Idle Proppant Plants as Pipeline Woes Suppress Demand

Hi-Crush and Covia Corp. have both idled proppant plants as the frac sand market is hit with a drop in customer demand.
Hi-Crush has idled its Whitehall Facility, located in Wisconsin. The CFO and CEO of the company noted that this development is temporary in nature (see below). Covia is idling four of its Midwestern proppant plants located in Missouri, Michigan, Minnesota and Illinois. The company is also reducing its output at its remaining facilities. In total, Covia has reduced proppant capacities by 3.3 million tons.The decline in demand can be traced back to completion delays due to the pipeline constraints in the Permian.
