Talisman Explores Possible Sale of Eagle Ford Assets

Talisman Energy Inc. is considering the sale of its Eagle Ford acreage which, if carried out, could rake in over $2 billion in proceeds, according to a report by Reuters.

The company owns approximately 74,000 acres within the play window and is currently developing that acreage through a joint venture project with Statoil ASA.

Talisman is currently running seven rigs in the play and has two completion crews on long-term contracts.

The company's  production rates in the play have averaged as follows:

  • 14-17 MMBOE for full-year 2012
  • 15 MMBOE in 3Q 2012 (compared to 9 MMBOE in 4Q 2011)

In regard to future development, Talisman believes that its acreage has approximately 780 drilling locations remaining.

The hint of a possible sale was initiated by two unnamed people familiar with the matter. The individuals also cautioned that discussions of the potential sale are in the early stage.

In addition to the Eagle Ford Shale, Talisman also maintains operations in Canada's Montney and Duvernay plays.
