With Merger on Ice, Halliburton, Baker Hughes Mull Sale of $7.0B in Assets

With their $34.6B merger deal up in the air, service giants Halliburton and Baker Hughes are looking to sell off over $7.0 billion in assets in hopes that would be enough to secure antitrust approval, according to reports.

Private equity firm The Carlyle Group has emerged as a serious potential buyer.

The companies had already planned to cull their assets in September 2015, announcing plans to sell a number of their business units including:

Halliburton’s expandable liner hangers business, which is part of the company’s Completion & Production Division; Baker Hughes’ core completions business, which includes: packers, flow control tools, subsurface safety systems, intelligent well systems, permanent monitoring, sand control tools and sand control screens; the Baker Hughes sand control…
