MDU Resources Group, Inc. announced that Daniel S. Kuntz has been named general counsel and secretary, effective Jan. 9. He succeeds Paul K. Sandness, who is retiring Jan. 8.
David L. Goodin, president and CEO of MDU Resources, said: "Dan has extensive knowledge in corporate and regulatory law. He has provided excellent counsel to our company on many important matters in the past 11 years. Dan will continue to protect our company's reputation by ensuring we meet or exceed all legal obligations."
Kuntz joined MDU Resources in 2004, most recently serving as associate general counsel and assistant secretary. Prior to joining MDU Resources, he was an associate and partner at Zuger Kirmis & Smith Law Firm from 1985-2004, counsel for the North Dakota Public Service Commission from 1979-85 and a law clerk for the North Dakota Supreme Court from 1978-79. He also served 11 years on the Bismarck Public School Board. Dan received his law degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law. He and his wife, Mary, live in Bismarck.
Sandness is retiring after a 36-year career with the company.
Goodin added: "Paul has done an outstanding job of providing sound legal advice and being a champion of integrity at our company, and he has prepared Dan well to pick up that baton. I wish Paul the very best in his well-earned retirement."
