With Anadarko Deal Sealed, Oxy Begins Cutting Workforce

Occidental Petroleum is prepping to make massive cuts to its workforce, according to a report by the Houston Chronicle.

This move is not unexpected as the company is likely looking to cut costs in the wake of its $57 billion (including debt) takeover of Anadarko Petroleum, which closed in Q4 2019.

According to the report, Oxy has already trimmed its staff by offering voluntary employee buyouts. However, CEO Vicki Hollub stated that despite the buyouts, further cuts are necessary.

"While the [buyout offers] have been successful, additional staff reductions are necessary," Hollub stated in an internal email obtained by the Chronicle.

The company declined to disclose how many employees would be affected, but it seems that the layoffs will be focused at its offices in Houston and Denver.
