Chesapeake Slashing Rig Count 22%; Will Focus on Enhanced Completions in Marcellus

Chesapeake released its Q2 2017 results where it dicussed its intent to lower its the rig count from 18 to 14, a 22% decrease, through the end of 2017 and wells results from various plays.

Highlights: Average daily production for Q2 2017 was ~527,600 boe/d, a 2% increase sequentially Currently operating 18 rigs but will drop to 14 by the end of 2017 (7 in the Eagle Ford, 4 in the Mid-Con, 3 in the Haynesville, 2 in the Powder River Basin, and 2 in Northeast Appalachia)  Placed its McGavin E WYO 6H well on production with 10,429-foot lateral and enhanced completion

Rig Count:


Although production from Q1 2017 to Q2 2017 only grew 2% to 528,000 boe/d, production in July averaged 548,000 boe/d. Chesapeake expects this number will continue to grow through August as it places 60 wells online…
