Chesapeake Bucks Trend, Ups 2019 Capex, Activity; Bets Big on New 'Brazos Valley' Unit

Chesapeake Energy has detailed its 2019 capital plan.

While many E&Ps are releasing more conservative capital budgets and operational plans, Chesapeake is increasing overall activity and spending for 2019.

Its new 'Brazos Valley' asset is getting the biggest chunk of its 2019 capex - Brazos Valley is what the company is calling the area it acquired via its nearly $4B acquisition of Wildhorse Resource Development.

2019 Outlook

- 2019 Capex: $2.3-2.5 billion (up slightly at the midpoint from 2018)

Marcellus: $215-235 million Brazos Valley / Austin Chalk: $700-730 million Powder River: $410-430 million South TX: $510-530 million Gulf Coast: $135-155 million Mid-Con: $110-130 million

- Rigs: 18-19 (up from 17 in 2018)
