Chesapeake Brings On VP of Exploration, Land & Subsurface Technology

Chesapeake Energy Corporation reported that Frank Patterson will join the company as Executive Vice President – Exploration, Land and Subsurface Technology. Patterson replaces John Kapchinske, who recently retired from the company. He will report to Chesapeake’s Chief Executive Officer Doug Lawler.

Lawler commented, “Frank is a world-class explorer with more than 30 years of experience developing and executing exploration programs. His leadership will propel our exploration resources and capabilities to new levels of performance while helping drive the greatest value from our outstanding portfolio.”

Patterson served in various roles at Anadarko Petroleum Corporation from 2006 to 2015, most recently as Senior Vice President – International Exploration. In that role, he was responsible for leading business development and international new ventures, including developing and executing exploration and appraisal plans for all of Anadarko’s international acreage positions. Patterson led the teams responsible for the discovery and appraisal of multiple large discoveries across Ghana, Mozambique, Brazil and Cote d’Ivoire.

Patterson previously worked as Vice President – Deepwater Exploration at Kerr-McGee, where he was responsible for the capture, development and execution of prospect inventory in the Gulf of Mexico, and as Manager – Geology at Sun E&P/Oryx Energy. Patterson holds a Bachelor of Science in geology from the University of Oklahoma and serves on the Board of Visitors at the University of Oklahoma’s Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy.
