Taking a quick look at Canada's first quarter A&D deals, Shale Experts found that the overall volume of $6.4 billion exceeded last year's first quarter A&D volume of $2.9 billion, more than doubling the amount of money spent.
E&P deals made up the majority, with 78 percent of the volume falling under this category. A midstream deal between Williams Partners accounted for a $1.2 billion section of midstream deals this quarter. Only $190 million worth of deals were made with service companies.
The top three deals in this quarter accounted for 76 percent of the volume:
- Devon and Canadian Natural Resources for $2.8 Billion
- Williams Companies and Williams Partners for $1.2 Billion
- Imperial Oil and Whitecap Resources for $855 Million
The majority of 'Other' transactions were under $200 million each.
By month, February and March were by far the busiest, taking 91 percent of the volume of transactions. February dominates the first quarter's transactions with $4.5 Billion.
Despite a severe winter, transaction volumes continue to increase over last year's. Canadian production should continue to increase as demand does, and new infrastructure projects come online to increase Canadian production options.
