BHP Considers Spin Off to Focus on Core Business
BHP Billiton may be considering a spinoff of $12 Billion worth of its operations acquired from its 2001 purchase of Billiton PLC, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The company would focus on four main products, including iron ore and petroleum, post spinoff. BHP has sold $5.2 Billion in assets since 2012.
The move would allow the company to free up cash flow for its core business. Iron ore, copper, coal and petroleum generated ~85% of BHP's sales in 2013.
