TransCanada's Keystone XL pipeline has hit another snag after being temporarily blocked by a federal US judge, according to multiple reports.
This comes after the pipeline was given the green-light by President Donald Trump about a year ago.
Federal Judge Brian Morris, who presides over the US District Court in Montana, asserted that the US State Department's decision to approve the pipeline goes against the Administrative Procedure Act. This requires that administrations give "reasoned explanations" for certain rulings and decisions.
Morris noted that the decision to approve the pipeline disregarded key issues centering on climate change and the effect the pipeline would have on the environment.
This ruling will not permanently block construction of the pipeline. However it will require the administration to launch a more comprehensive review of the project's effect on local climates, endangered species, etc.
