Schlumberger Planning Big Cut to Fleet; $800MM Write-Down

Schlumberger is planning to cut operations in the coming months as crude oil prices continue to drop, according to multiple reports.

As part of this reduction, the company is planning an $800 million write-down for the fourth quarter.

The majority of the fleet cuts will be aimed at its older WesternGeco vessels. According to Forbes, Schlumberger plans to run nine survey vessels and six source boats in the near future compared to 15 survey vessels and eight source boats at year-end 2013.
