EnCap Flatrock Midstream Announces Executive Promotions
EnCap Flatrock Midstream announced the promotions of Gregory C. King and Dave Kurtz to managing partner and Dennis J. McCanless to partner.
The firm manages institutional capital commitments of approximately $5.6 billion.

About Gregory C. King
Mr. King joined EnCap Flatrock as senior adviser in 2015, bringing more than 30 years of experience in the energy industry with a focus on liquids. He is based in EnCap Flatrock’s San Antonio office. From 2003 to 2007 he served as the president of Valero Energy Corporation (“Valero”) (VLO). As Valero’s president, he helped develop and execute a strategy to build the largest independent refiner in North America. During the same period, he also served as a member of the board of directors of Valero’s midstream business, Valero, LP (now NuStar Energy, L.P.) (NS). He earned his Juris Doctor at the University of Houston Law Center in 1985 and practiced law as a partner at Bracewell & Giuliani LLP’s Houston office from 1985 to 1993. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from the University of Texas in 1982.
Mr. King serves on the board of directors of several EnCap Flatrock portfolio companies including Evolution Midstream, LLC; Gravity Midstream, LLC; Lucid Energy Group II, LLC; and Moda Midstream, LLC.
About Dave Kurtz
Mr. Kurtz has extensive knowledge and expertise in both midstream and upstream, with significant strength in commercial transactions, acquisitions and divestitures. Prior to joining EnCap Flatrock in 2014 as managing director, Mr. Kurtz served as president and partner of Alpine, Inc., an exploration and production company focused on both conventional and unconventional plays. Mr. Kurtz has more than 30 years of experience in the energy industry. While with Alpine, Mr. Kurtz was responsible for raising capital, acquiring and developing acreage, and the divestiture of more than 700,000 acres in various project areas. Prior to Alpine, Mr. Kurtz served as vice president of business development for OGE Energy Corp., an Oklahoma regulated public utility, and its subsidiary Enogex Inc., an unregulated midstream company. Mr. Kurtz holds a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering from The University of Kansas and a Master of Business Administration degree from Oklahoma City University.
Based in EnCap Flatrock’s Oklahoma City office, Mr. Kurtz serves on the board of directors of Tall Oak Midstream II, LLC (“Tall Oak II”) and was instrumental in the $1.55 billion sale to EnLink of Tall Oak Midstream, LLC’s (“Tall Oak I”) Oklahoma assets. He is also a director at Cardinal Midstream II, LLC and Lucid Energy Group II, LLC.
About Dennis McCanless
Mr. McCanless has been with EnCap Flatrock since its inception. He joined the firm as a managing director and works from the firm’s San Antonio office. He has more than 27 years of experience in the midstream and energy space with extensive knowledge in operations, strategic planning, asset management, commercial contracts and transactions. Prior to joining Flatrock Energy Advisors in 2007, he was president and CEO of Gas Solutions Holdings, Inc., which was focused on natural gas gathering and processing in East Texas. For the five years prior, Mr. McCanless was the director of commercial assets for Enbridge Energy’s Texas Panhandle/Western Oklahoma and South Texas systems, where he managed commercial and strategic activities and led the rapid growth and profitability of the company’s regional assets. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston.
Mr. McCanless serves as president and a member of the board of directors of Toledo Bend Midstream, LLC. He is also a member of the board of directors of EagleClaw Midstream, LLC; Stakeholder Midstream, LLC; and Tradition Midstream, LLC.
