Rig Count By Operator, Basin, Play - September 22, 2018

In our weekly rig count round up, we look at rig count activity, by basin/play and operator. 

First lets take a look at rig count in our core plays. 

** Shale Experts Rigs database includes veritcal as well as horizontal rigs.   You can track rigs whether its drilling veritcal, horizontal or directional.

US Lower 48 Basins

Rig Increase

Findings, the Permian added 6 net rigs this week and the Marcellus added 1 rig.

Rig Decrease

Powder River, Utica, GraniteWash and the DJ Basin saw a reduction in rig count.

As you can see from the table above, the counties with the most changes are Reeves, Midland, Lea and Pecos County.

 

Permian Rig Count by Operator (select operators)

Above is a select list of operators in the Permian Basin.  As you can see, Exxon/XTO added 13 rigs this year, Energen (who most recently agreed to be acquired by Diamondback Energy) added 5 rigs this year.   Concho, who recently acquired RSP Permian also added 5 rigs this year so far.

From the above you you can see that Roan Resources (the company formed between Linn Energy and Citizen Energy), added some 8 rigs so far this year and more is planned for 2019.  Continental Resources added 6 rigs and XTO/Exxon added 6 rigs as well so far this year.
