Shell Top Spender in Latest GOM Lease Sale with $94MM in Bids

Shell snapped up the majority of from the latest Gulf of Mexico lease sale, according to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management's (BOEM) reports on the sale.

The company bid a total of $94 million on a massive list of leases, racking up 87 total bid wins out of 88 submissions. Shell spent the most on the deepwater Alaminos Canyon block 343 at a bid of $8.2 million.

A total of 30 companies bid a total of $283.7 million on 227 tracts (covering over ~1.2 million acres).

Other companies who won leases in the sale include:

  • Anadarko: 27 winning bids / $24.1 million
  • BP: 23 winning bids / $15.5 million
  • Hess: 12 winning bids / $17.9 million
  • Chevron: Eight winning bids / $12.4 million

Other companies who picked up leases in the sale include LLOG Exploration, Kosmos Energy, Equinor, Total, Fieldwood and more.
