According to a report from Reuters, an above-ground pipeline owned by Plains All-American spilled thousands of gallons of crude oil over a half-mile area in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed the spill at 10,000 gallons.
The break in the pipeline was at a pump station in an industrial area near San Fernando Road in Atwater Village.
Plains said that 500 barrels or less had leaked, 10,000 gallons is equivalent to 240 barrels.
The leak appears to have been caused by a valve failure. Plains did not identify the specific pipeline.
Clean up efforts should near completion in 24 hours.
